Togakushi Shrine

Togakushi Shrine, linked to the Japanese myth of the Heavenly Rock Cave, is made up of five shrines: Hokosha, Hinomikosha, Chusha, Okusha and Kuzuryusha. From spring to autumn, walk the avenue of cedars more than 400 years old to Okusha; in winter, visit the snow-covered Chusha and Hokosha. Daisei Taxi is a local taxi based in Togakushi. We provide private transfers from Nagano Station, hotels in Nagano City, and accommodations in Hakuba, Nozawa Onsen and Shiga Kogen, linking the five shrines by car. We can also combine your visit with Togakushi soba or Zenkoji Temple for a full-day tour.

• About 1 hour by car from Nagano Station to Togakushi.

• Togakushi Shrine is made up of five shrines: Hokosha, Hinomikosha, Chusha, Okusha and Kuzuryusha. They are spread over several kilometers along the mountain road, so visiting them by car is the easiest way.

• From spring to autumn, you can walk from the Okusha entrance through the Zuishinmon Gate and along the cedar-lined approach to Okusha and Kuzuryusha. The approach is about 2 km one way, about 40 minutes on foot.

• In winter, Okusha and Kuzuryusha are closed. Entry beyond the Zuishinmon Gate is not allowed, and visitors pray at the Yohaisho (worship area) at the Okusha entrance. They usually reopen in late April after the snow melts.

• In winter, you can still visit Chusha, Hinomikosha and Hokosha. Hokosha has a long flight of stone steps, so please watch your step in the snow.

• Togakushi gets deep snow and very cold temperatures in winter. Please wear non-slip shoes and warm clothing.

• After your visit, enjoy a bowl of Togakushi soba.
