Nozawa Onsen 

Thirteen public baths cared for by local families, and the Dosojin Fire Festival every January 15. Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort spreads from the 1,650m summit of Mt. Kenashi down toward the hot spring village, drawing skiers from around the world for its deep powder. • About 1 hour by car from Nagano Station to Nozawa Onsen.

• The village has 13 public baths. Most are free — please leave a small donation in the box at the entrance as thanks.

• Oyu, the symbol of the village, has two baths: "lukewarm" and "hot." Even the lukewarm one is very hot. ・Ogama is the villagers' kitchen, where hot spring water of about 90°C bubbles up. Please watch from a little distance.

• At "Yurari" near Ogama, you can cook eggs bought at nearby shops in the hot spring to make onsen eggs (about 20 minutes).

• Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort spreads from the 1,650m summit of Mt. Kenashi toward the village.

• Daisei Taxi takes you there with no transfers from the airport, Nagano Station or your hotel. Skis, boards and large luggage ride with you.

• Dosojin Fire Festival (every January 15) Village men defend a burning shrine against flaming torches in a sacred fire ritual handed down for nearly 300 years. It is an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. *In 2026, viewing was limited to villagers and guests staying in Nozawa Onsen village.
