Inside Joshinetsu Kogen National Park, Shiga Kogen brings together 18 ski resorts. With Mount Yokote rising to 2,307 meters, it is one of Japan’s leading snow resorts, known for its superb powder snow. On the coldest days, Mount Yokote is lined with trees covered in snow and ice — the famous “snow monsters.”

The Winter Road to Shiga Kogen
・The road up to Shiga Kogen is a mountain road with one lane in each direction, and it can freeze
・Driving up in a two-wheel-drive vehicle without winter tires and chains is very dangerous
・In winter, parts of the Shiga-Kusatsu Road (Route 292), including the section toward Kusatsu, are closed (November 11, 2026 – April 21, 2027)
・Leave the snowy mountain roads to a local professional driver
